Year after year, the Toyota Corolla continues to deliver excellent fuel economy and lots of features inside a stylish compact sedan. So, what's new for the latest model? How is it different from last year's? To show drivers near Ithaca, Elmira, and Binghamton what's changed, Maguire Toyota put this 2020 Toyota Corolla vs. 2019 Toyota Corolla comparison together.

Style & Design

You'll notice the difference between the 2020 Toyota Corolla and the 2019 model as soon as you see them side by side. The latest version of this compact classic sits lower to the ground, has a wider body, and sports a more streamlined look.

Both models have a bold, black, mesh air intake that stretches across the front of the car. However, the 2020 model alters the grille in a way that makes the entire body seem more modern and more aerodynamic. Rather than dropping down in the center to isolate the Toyota logo, the new Toyota Corolla moves the iconic logo up onto the front of the hood.

While the 2019 model has a round hood, the 2020 model gives the appearance of being round up front, but actually featuring a flatter, wider hood that drops down. The overall result is a sleek, futuristic look that's more eye-catching than previous generations.

Safety & Driver Assistance Features

Both the 2019 Toyota Corolla and the 2020 model were designed with front and rear energy absorbing crumple zones, high-tensile-strength steel body panels, and an energy-absorbing steering column. Aside from their scientific designs, each one features eight airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners with force limiters, and Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH).

You can also rely on lots of driver assistance features. These give you more awareness and can prevent accidents. In the 2019 model, Toyota Safety Sense™ P comes standard. For the latest Toyota Corolla, the safety systems have all received an upgrade. Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 is standard on every trim level and includes features like:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection with low-light pedestrian detection and daytime bicyclist detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection with Sway Warning System
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Infotainment System

The infotainment system also gets a big upgrade in the 2020 Toyota Corolla. Last year's model featured a 6.1-inch touchscreen display in the center of the dashboard. The latest model now sports a standard 7-inch touchscreen.

While both systems give you the ability to connect your smartphone via Bluetooth®, the 2020 model gives you even more access with standard Apple CarPlay®. Now you can access your favorite apps, plus with voice recognition, you can control them without taking your hands off the wheel.
