Sporty compact sedans like the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra are always fun to drive. They offer great fuel economy, a stylish cockpit, and lots of features to give you a safer and more convenient drive.

So, which one of these sleek sedans is right for you? Maguire Toyota can help drivers in Ithaca, Elmira, and Binghamton decide with this 2020 Toyota Corolla vs. Hyundai Elantra comparison.

Interior Options & Design

The Toyota Corolla interior offers several options that are both stylish and comfortable. For example, there's a choice between cloth, SofTex®, and premium sport seats with fabric inserts. Each one of these can be highlighted with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

This allows the Toyota Corolla to make a few different first impressions. With cloth or SofTex® seats, it looks like an upscale compact sedan. Plus, the sport seats can complement the sharp exterior design and give off the appearance of a sporty roadster.

The Hyundai Elantra is locked into its appearance. It also offers a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, but the interior isn't as stylish or comfortable. For example, cloth and leather are the only upholstery options. It doesn't offer the same support or dynamic cockpit design as the sport seats in the Corolla.

Safety & Driver-Assistance Features

The Toyota Corolla keeps you safe throughout your drive with front and rear crumple zones and eight airbags. It also has lots of standard driver-assistance features that will give you more awareness and help prevent accidents.

The Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 system looks out for you and your vehicle with features like:

  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Road Sign Assist

The Hyundai Elantra was also designed with crumple zones in its frame and offers similar driver-assistance features. However, it leaves some of the interior unprotected with just seven airbags.

Some of its features aren't available until the higher trim levels, either. For example, Smart Cruise Control and High Beam Assist aren't available on the base trim. Plus, the vehicle doesn't offer anything to prevent you from speeding like Road Sign Assist.

Infotainment Systems

The Toyota Corolla also keeps you connected during your drive with a standard 7-inch touchscreen in the center of your dashboard. Connect your smartphone via Bluetooth® and you'll be able to make hands-free calls and stream music. You can also control your smartphone apps with standard Apple CarPlay®.

It's easy to switch between apps too. Both Siri® Eyes Free and voice recognition come standard. Plus, everyone on board can access their email, social media, and streaming services through Wi-Fi Connect Powered by Verizon.

The Hyundai Elantra also comes with a Bluetooth®-compatible infotainment system. Unfortunately, its standard touchscreen is only five inches across. Features like Apple CarPlay® and voice recognition aren't standard, either, while a Wi-Fi hotspot isn't even offered.
