Highlander vs Pilot: Performance Specs

The entry-level edition of the 2019 Toyota Highlander features a 4-cylinder engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 185 horsepower, making it a capable companion for city drives and highway travels alike. There is a more powerful V6 engine to be enjoyed if you'd like a bit more kick with your drive. The available 3.5L V6 brings together power and efficiency and is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Accelerating quickly off the starting line, this produces up to 306 horsepower.

The Honda Pilot has one engine choice: a 280-horsepower V6. While it's more powerful than the Highlander base engine, it receives poorer gas mileage than the Highlander base engine and is also less powerful than the Highlander V6.

Toyota vs Honda: Interior

The Highlander and Pilot both have seating for up to eight people, so if you often find yourself picking up your kids and your kids' friends, you might be thinking about buying or leasing a 3-row SUV. The bench seat in the second row of the Highlander is replaced by a pair of captain's chairs on higher trims, which brings seating to seven. This is similar to the Honda Pilot, which has seating for up to eight but can also be configured for seven.

When it comes to entertainment, the Toyota Highlander has the available Entune™ multimedia system, with an available 8-inch high-resolution touchscreen and integrated navigation. The Honda Pilot also carries an available 8-inch screen. Hoping to let a little light in on a warm spring or summer day? The press of a button will open up the moonroof and bring fresh air and sunshine in. This is an available feature in both the Highlander and Pilot.

Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) vs Honda Sensing®

The active safety technologies in both the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot are designed to keep you and those in the car with you safe. In the Highlander, the Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) active safety suite comes with Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/ SA) and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). Also, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/ PD) is included, which can determine if a frontal crash is likely and apply the brakes if you're unable to react in time.

Similar technology is found in the 2019 Pilot, with the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) providing comparable frontal collision awareness technology. The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) is able to adjust steering to keep the Pilot in the center of the lane you're in.

2019 Toyota Highlander vs Honda Pilot: A Final Word

The 3-row 2019 Toyota Highlander comes standard with a number of interior amenities and safety features designed to make rides near Ithaca, Corning, and Binghamton more enjoyable. The 2019 Honda Pilot also offers a strong assortment of features and a standard V6 engine.

However, with its strong fuel economy numbers, available V6 engine, and interior amenities, the 2019 Highlander stands out as a capable and driver-friendly SUV. Schedule a test drive at Maguire Toyota to get behind the wheel for yourself.
