A reliable minivan like the Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey is a great way to get your family around near Ithaca, Elmira, and Binghamton. They offer lots of features and seating for up to eight people. So, which one is right for you and your family? To help you decide, Maguire Toyota put them up against each other in this Toyota Sienna vs. Honda Odyssey comparison.

Toyota Sienna vs Honda Odyssey Safety

The Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are both designed to keep you and your passengers safe. Each minivan has eight airbags, including all-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags. Both vehicles also make sure everyone on board can strap in safely with front seatbelt pretensioners and Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) in the second and third rows.

The Toyota offers you more peace of mind though with standard driver assistance features. The Toyota Safety Sense™ P system can prevent accidents by giving you more awareness during your drive. Some of the features it uses to look out for your van are:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

The Honda Odyssey also offers a system of driver assistance features, but it isn't available on every trim level the way Toyota Safety Sense™ P is.

Toyota Sienna vs Honda Odyssey Infotainment System

Both minivans offer lots of features that can help you and your passengers enjoy the ride. The Toyota Sienna has a standard 7-inch touchscreen in the dashboard. It's Bluetooth® compatible and lets you stream music, make hands-free phone calls, or access your favorite apps with Apple CarPlay®. Plus, everyone can stay connected with Wi-Fi Connect Powered by Verizon.

The Honda Odyssey also has a Bluetooth® compatible infotainment system, but its base trim only offers a 5-inch LCD screen. While Apple CarPlay® and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also offered, they're not available until the higher trim levels.

Each minivan also offers a rear seat entertainment system that's connected to a Blu-ray™ player. The Toyota features a 16.4-inch screen that flips down from the ceiling. With its dual-view display, passengers can watch two things at the same time.

The Honda doesn't offer a dual-view screen. In fact, its drop-down screen is much smaller overall at just 10.2 inches wide.

Toyota Sienna vs Honda Odyssey Capability

While the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey offer lots of cargo room inside, they can both help you bring some extra cargo by towing up to 3,500 pounds. The Toyota may have an easier time hauling your trailer though. It runs on a 3.5L V6 engine that gets up to 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque.

The Honda Odyssey can't provide you with as much power. It also has a 3.5L V6 engine under the hood, but it has a slightly smaller output with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque.

Whether you're towing some extra gear or just running errands around town, the Toyota Sienna can also deliver a more capable drive when conditions get tough.  While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive with active torque control is available. The Honda is only available with front-wheel drive.
